    Amazing

Absolutely worth the upgrade — brilliant console!Bigger, sharper screen, smoother performance, and the new controllers feel fantastic. Loads faster than the original Switch, better battery life, and backwards compatibility means all my games still work. Nintendo nailed it! 🎮

Best handheld there is. The screen is great

As a Switch 1 OLED owner, I was putting off buying the Switch 2 due to the screen being LCD, and many people criticising it. So first, the screen is great. While not having the deep blacks of OLED, I was surprised by just how colourful and vibrant it is. I have not noticed any ghosting etc and the response times are not a concern for me. The Switch 2 is a huge upgrade not just in terms of raw power and features. It feels so much better in hand, much more like a proper games console. The controllers feel much better, sticks and buttons are so much better and the screen size is great while still being portable. I have a Legion go 2 Extreme (tried both windows11 and steamOS) which cost £1000 with an OLED screen but the Switch 2 is better, more portable, good controls, and the OS is so slick and just made for gaming.

    Great purchase

In love with my switch 2. Had been considering purchasing for awhile and finally decided to do it and have not regretted it. Such a great console and super easy to set up and use. Lots of choices of games to play and nice big screen while playing. Was pleasantly surprised that is came with a HDMI cable to for connecting to your TV. Would highly recommend to get one.

    Impressive

For the time I’ve had the console, it has been great. The display is crazy; it makes the games feel more polished and immersive on handheld.

Not fit for purpose when docked

What have you done Nintendo! Fine in handheld mode, but couldn’t get it to work docked to the tv, just kept losing the hdmi signal, seems this is a widespread issue, tried on multiple devices and a gaming monitor, happened on every one! Massive handshake issues that fanboys think is totally fine, sent back for a refund!

    Great for the price

Got it for the Zelda OOT remake but tried other games and had a lot of fun with it I use it more than my steam deck now just wish the battery life would be a bit better.Better with a controller I find the joycons awkward due to shape.

It’s not a bad piece of hardware

I am usually against Nintendo with their hostile practices involving going after anyone who breathes anything resembling their IP.I bought the game system for a cheap enough price for what I was willing to pay for.I played a few games on the first iteration known as the Switch 1. Which had latency issues with certain assets loading in. The Switch 2 is just an improved piece of hardware from the previous one.All flag ship games don’t have predatory microtransactions for children to fall for.Games that are exclusive to the Switch 2 that i’d recommend getting is:- Pokopia (A game from the Pokemon Franchise that functions like a casual building minecraft thing. Without a failure state so this is good for children.)- Tomodachi Life: Living the dream (Think of the sims with a wacky set of interactions where you can do anything without any filters in place. Allowing you to customise and personalise your own island of wacky characters. Isolated to merely your device.)

Really fun experience in handheld mode

Firstly,Amazon sent my brand new switch in a paper bag. No box and no protection.I was extremely annoyed about this as the switch 2 isn’t cheap and whoever packed it should be ashamed. On to the review,The switch 2 is actually a really fun console to play. It’s somewhat upgraded from switch 1 and playing in handheld mode is where the real fun is.The screen is bigger then switch 1, the storage space is much bigger at around 250gb, although, this is actually quite small considering some games can use up to 80or so gb of storage. If you plan to play mainly smaller indie games, this will be fine but if you plan on buying bigger games like cyberpunk, split faction, Indiana jones etc then you’ll need to buy a micro sd express card, of which are not cheap but it is what it is.You can pick up a 256gb card for about £45-50 512gb for between £100-£140 and 1tb for a ridiculous average of £180 plus.If you’ve played a switch before you’ll be familiar with the joy cons, if not then let me tell you that they are terrible for an adult.Side scrolling platformers like certain Mario, donkey Kong games are ok, as are shmups (shoot em up games) as you’ll just be going from left to right shooting and jumping etc but when trying to play 3d games like Mario odyssey, or any kind of fps like doom etc, then the joy cons are very difficult to use.Basically, trying to navigate a game and trying to aim and move accurately, is like trying to walk home from the pub after a night out, really drunk trying to walk in a straight line. The poor accuracy mainly comes from the fact that your thumb does not sit on the right analog stick naturally, like with ps5 or xbox controller. You literally have to bend your right thumb inwards and you just can’t be precise like this and it’s extremely uncomfortable and because there’s no grips on joy cons, your hands are flat under the joy cons and console. You can buy a switch grip, of which there are many and you basically slot ya switch 2 in to the grip and they have somewhat of a controller like grip and this makes ya right thumb much more comfortable and hands in general are more comfortable, letting you perform better in game.Personally, I went with an add on controller that you slide the switch console in to.This basically has ps5 style grips and Xbox style sticks and not only can you grip it just like a ps5 controller but the x box sticks are extremely comfortable for your thumbs. The sticks are also Hall effect sticks meaning you won’t get possible stick drift.I wouldn’t have bought switch 2 if it wasn’t for this controller add on.The switch grips are good but this controller add on is much better. It also has good features, like rumble effect, programmable buttons under the grips, turbo fire, remapping of buttons and lighting effects around the sticks. The controller attachment I’m referring to is sold on Amazon and goes under the name of Hellcool switch 2 pro controller. It’s a third party controller , the one like where many companies buy the same controller and add there own name to it.On the box it actually says JC500.It’s priced around £36-46 depending on if it’s on offer or not and it’s a real game changer for adult players, especially those with bigger hands. It’s rather light but once you slide the switch 2 in to it, it feels decent weight. The general look and feel is really great. The buttons are all very good , main buttons a tiny bit mushy but still really fine. The battery on switch 2, is a real let down and playing games like cyber punk, doom eternal etc, you’ll only get around 2 hours and a few mins from a full charge, in handheld mode. However, there’s 2 work around for this.1 buying a power bank. A 20,000mah 45w power bank will cost you between £25-£30 and this will add about 3 more hours to your play session. So using 1 could get you 5 hours of continuous play.Or the option that I decided to go with and just buy a 60w charging brick with power delivery, a usb c cable rated for at least 60w and simply plug switch 2 in to the wall while playing. This way, you can play however long as you like with no interruptions and when you have it plugged in to the wall, you are bypassing the battery and drawing power from your main power supply.I don’t plan to play my switch 2 in docked mode but I still bought a cheap power brick for handheld play, so I have my official Nintendo charging brick for dock in case I change my mind. The switch 2 can output up to 4K 120fps in docked mode on tv, although, there’s literally only about 3 games that can do 120fps but many do output 60fps 4KIn handheld mode it outputs 1080p and often 60fps or close to it and looks and feels nice.It has backwards compatibility with switch 1 games and as of around March of 2026 Nintendo implemented BOOST mode, making switch 1 games look and run better on switch 2.So some game that ran at 720p or lower and at 30 fps now often run at 1080p and 60 fps or close to it.A screen protector is a must because the switch 2 screen is very delicate, it has like a soft plastic layer over the screen, this is not a screen protector, what this does is if you droop and break the screen it protects user from the glass shards from screen, harming the user but the negative to this plastic film is that it’s very easily scratched and you should not try to remove it because you could damage the screen. If you know you’ll only play in handheld mode and use a carry case and are careful, it’s not as necessary but if you plan to play in docked mode, a screen protector is a must because many people have reported getting scratches on the screen when docking the device.Plus, tempered glass screen protectors are quite scratch resistant. You need to make sure you get a tempered glass screen protector for best protection.Overall, I’m really enjoying the switch 2. Handheld mode makes me feel like a kid again when I played gameboy and game gear, just a million times better.PositiveBigger 7.9 inch screenUp to 4K 60fps in docked mode1080p up to 60 fps handheldBoost mode improving switch 1 gamesBetter graphics and performanceBigger storage spacePlay in bed, on train, bus, plane, park etcCrazy fun dopamine rushNegativePoor battery, solved with power bank or plugged in to the wallSmall joy con for adults solved with switch grip or my fav HellCool switch 2 pro controllerBigger file size on games so need a micro sd express cardPorts of third party games more expensive then ps5/xboxBig Nintendo games generally never get huge discounts like ps5/ boxI know some people would think my review score should be 3/5 because the negatives but for me the main point is, is it affordable? Yes, is it really fun, spin handheld mode while in bed, on train, in park etc? Hell yes.If the battery life was better, joycons more comfortable and bigger, better storage sizeThen I would have scored it a 5/5I’m currently playing doom eternal in handheld mode and it honestly looks and runs incredibly well and even though I completed it about 3 times on ps4 and about 3 times on ps5 I absolutely love the game in handheld mode and I’m really looking forward to finally playing breath of the wild at 60fps with improved graphics, I just bought red dead redemption and that has a free switch 2 upgrade making it smooth 60fps constant , I’m going to buy borderlands collection, bioshock collection etc and both of them are on sale in Nintendo Eshop for 7.99 each and both come with 3 games and dlc.Plus I have lots of Mario, donkey kong and loads of indies to keep me going.I absolutely recommend Nintendo switch 2 especially if you enjoy playing in handheld mode.

A genuine next-generation upgrade and still everything I love about the Switch

Having owned the original Nintendo Switch, I spent some time wondering whether the Switch 2 would feel like a genuinely worthwhile upgrade or simply a slightly improved version of the same console. After using it properly, I’m very pleased to say that it feels like a substantial step forward while retaining everything that made the original Switch so enjoyable. It is still unmistakably a Nintendo Switch: it works brilliantly as both a handheld console and a system connected to the television. However, almost every part of the experience now feels bigger, faster and more refined. The improvements that have stood out most to me:• Much larger and sharper handheld displayThe move from the original Switch’s 6.2-inch 720p display to a 7.9-inch 1080p screen is one of the most noticeable upgrades. Games look clearer, text is easier to read and the additional screen space makes handheld gaming feel far less cramped.HDR support and the higher refresh-rate capability also help games look brighter and smoother where supported. Although it is an LCD rather than an OLED display, it is still an excellent screen and a substantial improvement over the standard original Switch.• A major improvement in performanceThe Switch 2 feels considerably more capable than the first console. Games designed or enhanced for the newer hardware look sharper and generally feel smoother and more responsive. The original Switch was an excellent console, but its age was becoming noticeable in more demanding games. The Switch 2 feels much better equipped for modern releases and gives developers considerably more room to create larger and more visually impressive games.• Far better television outputWhen connected to a compatible television, the Switch 2 can output at up to 4K resolution, with support for higher frame rates at lower resolutions. This does depend on the individual game and television, so buyers shouldn’t assume that every title will automatically run in 4K or at 120fps. However, compared with the original Switch’s maximum 1080p output, the difference in supported games can be very noticeable.• Much more internal storageThe 256GB of built-in storage is a huge improvement over the original Switch’s 32GB. It gives you considerably more room for downloaded games, updates and additional content before needing to purchase extra storage.A portion of the capacity is reserved for the system, but it is still far more practical than the limited space provided by the original console.• Improved Joy-Con 2 controllersThe magnetic Joy-Con 2 attachment system is much more convenient than sliding the controllers onto rails. They connect firmly and are quick to attach or remove. The controllers are also larger, which suits the increased size of the console and makes the complete system feel more substantial. The ability to use a Joy-Con like a mouse in supported games is an interesting addition that could become increasingly useful as more games support it.• Existing Switch games are not immediately left behindOne of the most important benefits is being able to continue playing compatible physical and digital games from the original Nintendo Switch library. This makes upgrading much easier to justify because you are not starting again with an empty game collection. Some older games also receive updates or paid Switch 2 upgrades that improve their graphics, performance or content.Compatibility is not absolutely universal, so it is worth checking Nintendo’s compatibility information for any unusual games or accessories you rely on.• Still an excellent hybrid consoleThe core idea behind the Switch remains its biggest strength. I can play on the television, take the same game into another room or use the console while travelling without needing separate systems. The Switch 2 improves that experience rather than trying to replace it with something completely different.A few drawbacks worth knowing about:• The console is larger and heavier than the original Switch, which is noticeable during longer handheld sessions.• Battery life can vary considerably depending on the game. The additional performance and larger display mean it may not last as long as some versions of the original Switch.• Additional storage requires a microSD Express card. A standard microSD card from an original Switch cannot simply be reused for storing and playing Switch 2 games.• Owners upgrading from the Switch OLED may miss the deeper blacks and contrast of an OLED panel, even though the Switch 2 display is larger, sharper and supports more advanced features.• Some original Switch accessories, including the old dock and certain Joy-Con accessories, are not directly compatible.Who I would recommend it to:• Existing Switch owners who use their console regularly and want better graphics, performance and storage• People who play frequently in handheld mode and will appreciate the larger 1080p screen• Families who already own a collection of compatible Switch games• Anyone buying their first Nintendo console who wants access to both the established Switch library and newer Switch 2 releasesOverall verdictThis has been a great console and, for me, a genuinely worthy upgrade from the original Switch. It does not abandon the successful design of the first console. Instead, it improves the display, performance, storage, controllers and television experience while preserving the flexibility and game library that made the Switch so popular. The battery life, increased weight and requirement for microSD Express storage are worth considering, but none of these have outweighed the improvements for me.If you only occasionally use an original Switch and are happy with its performance, there may be no urgent reason to upgrade. For regular Switch players, however, the improvements are significant enough that the Switch 2 feels like a proper generational step forward rather than a minor refresh.Very pleased with it and easily one of the best gaming purchases I have made in recent years.
